Absolutely all varieties spray miniature roses - a real find for those who do not have the ability to break a large mixborder, but really wants to decorate their site with a beautiful floral arrangement. These small shrubs do not take up much space and, moreover, perfectly coexist with very different types of garden crops, perfectly setting off high tapeworms and perfectly complementing the groundcover reeds.
The miniature rose is a low, compact plant no more than 25-35 cm in height, with small flowers, graceful leaves and thin shoots.
Miniature roses for cultivation in the open field
The idea of miniature roses has been changing rapidly over time. A large number of new varieties appeared after the breeders of ornamental plants have mastered the modern methods of selection. From about 1980, particular attention was paid to potted roses. As a result of this, roses growing in a pot, pail or box on the balcony received completely new application possibilities.
Naturally, the new benefits touched the cultivation of miniature roses in the open field. At the same time, the properties of growth, uniformity and density of foliage were improved, the number of flowers and their size were increased. It is also worth noting a significant improvement in the health of roses and a strict distinction between varieties of miniature roses in accordance with different goals. Nevertheless, some intersections with a group of low-growing climbing roses could not be avoided.
Miniature roses are also called ground cover. Such a double name in itself indicates a diverse application of the plants of this group. Initially, miniature varieties were intended to decorate urban flower beds.
Previously, they were planted on a groundcover variety Contoneaser. It is quite simple to care for him, but he also looks boring. To remedy the situation, gardeners were looking for an alternative among densely growing, resistant varieties of roses that could turn low-key beds into flowering carpets. First decided to use old varieties and, among other things, straight-growing single-flowering varieties with long shoots and the possibility of branching, as well as miniature polyanthaceae roses with small flowers.
Soon, nurseries provided stores with many new varieties that needed to be grouped. At least in terms of growth properties. There were five such groups:
- Slow growing, ground cover;
- Upright, with a hard stem;
- Low, with dense foliage;
- Slightly curved, spreading;
- Intensively growing, ground cover.
These photos show miniature roses from different groups:
The name "ground cover roses" is problematic for an amateur grower. Most often, such a plant is expected to grow at a height of several centimeters from the level of the soil. However, these varieties behave differently. To avoid misunderstandings, they came up with the names "ground cover roses" and "miniature bush roses." And here we are again where there are no clear distinctions between groups of plants. Several decades ago, many varieties of miniature spray roses could easily be counted among the group of modern climbing roses.

Proper pruning of miniature roses for the winter (with video)
These roses are the smallest. But it is very important to trim them correctly, because if not to do this, some varieties lose their typical appearance.
Many, in particular ancient varieties, have countless weak, thin, branched shoots. It is hardly possible and, moreover, it is very difficult to cut them strictly according to the rules. Yes it is and to anything! The easiest way to wrap the crown with your hand and cut off all the shoots in half or two-thirds of the length, that is, about ten centimeters.
When pruning miniature roses for the winter, the weakest side shoots can be removed later. This will provoke the growth of strong fresh shoots, which will give a fluffy and dense foliage and ensures the correct form of the plant.
Common rules for pruning miniature bush roses do not exist. And all because this group of plants is characterized by an incredible diversity in all possible parameters, including the shape and properties of growth. The size of the area that needs to be covered with flowers is crucial when pruning.
This is achieved only by perennial cultivation. Therefore, pruning primarily involves minor corrections and, of course, removal of dead or diseased shoots. Pruning miniature roses in the fall every year is not necessary. Intensive pruning for the purpose of recovery is carried out every 3-5 years.
The ideal amount of strong buds on the shoot is 5-6 pieces. Keep in mind at the same time that among the miniature spray roses are also found once blooming. After radical improvement pruning such roses do not bloom next year.
On large areas miniature bush roses can be cut brush cutter, not afraid to harm them. If necessary, after rough pruning, the bushes can be pruned more precisely and thin.
