Medicinal kupena: application in medicine and design

Kupena - perennial with many useful properties. This asparagus plant is also often called the Solomonic seal. On the basis of the coupe of the “Medicinal” type, preparations are made that are used in many diseases, being used in modern medicine.

The fact is that in the plant of this species there are many glycosides and alkaloids. Glycosides have a positive effect on the work of the heart muscle. Alkaloids, depending on the species, have antitumor and antitussive properties. Can be used as anesthetic or antimalarial.

The use of flowers and roots bought for medicinal purposes began in the times of Kievan Rus. A decoction of the roots of this miracle flower helped with hernias and ulcers.

In modern medicine for the treatment of these diseases have found more effective means, but also about the medicinal properties of this flower have not been forgotten. Now it is based on a lot of tools, shown in diseases of the lungs, in particular for some forms of bronchitis and tracheitis.

Also, this plant in the old days used to bring freckles. The use of juice bought with medicinal for these purposes is practiced to this day - it is a safe and cheap way to cleanse the skin with spring pigmentation.

What does the plant look like?

Kupena, regardless of the species, has a thick horizontal rhizome. The stem is most often furrowed. Above it bends like a bell. Leaves in all species are quite large. The flowers are white, inclined to the ground. Depending on the species, the height can be from 30 cm to one and a half meters.

The most popular type of this plant is called medicinal or fragrant. It is his juice used in traditional and traditional medicine. To describe the medicinal type of kupene, to the averaged characteristic, which is given above, you need to add only a couple of details:

  1. First of all, it is worth noting that the flowers have a greenish tint closer to the receptacle.
  2. Inflorescences are located on 1-2 pieces on the peduncle.
  3. The leaves are large, but smaller than those of other species, and they go alternately.
  4. The scented variety reaches a height of about half a meter.

This flower gives fruit. The medicinal species has blue berries. They look beautiful and resemble blueberries, but are not suitable for food. The fragrant variety is propagated with the help of seeds from these berries. So if you want to plant, you can grow several seedlings from seeds.

Look at the photo: the medicinal bath is shown on it during the flowering period. In the next picture - the ovary of berries.

There are several more species of this flower. They are not much different from fragrant, but some have unique alkaloids in their composition, while others simply have slightly different color of leaves or a cut of petals.

Popular species have several varieties with white flecks or leaf borders (for example, P. odoratum 'Variegatum'). This nuance coloring refreshes the plant.

Some other species are similar to it:

Kupena broadleaf (P. latifolium)

Koupena is aromatic (P. odoratum)

In appearance, they differ only in height (from 50 to 120 cm), and the number of flowers at the base of the leaves.

Slightly different from their counterparts kupena squat (P. humile). Its shoots do not bend, but it is up to 30 in height. See. The squat bath is often used in landscape design.

Due to its straight stalk and low “growth”, it is well combined in height with:

  • Narcissus
  • Anemonee
  • Delphinium

And the white flowers of the forest dweller dilute the bright colors of these plants. Only when planting should pay attention to the fact that the plants were at a distance from each other, close to the bath can live only with strong neighbors.

It is quite another thing - standing apart Hooker (P. hookerii). This is a charming miniature, in her the opposite is true: the flowers are larger than those of her tall sisters, and pink, and the leaves are smaller, and the height is not taller than 15, and in color, all 7. But the character is the same annoying: it is growing fast.

In the photo - the flower of this species is bought:

See how different it is from the plant we are used to.

With pink flowers and one more look - pink bridal (P. roseum), more like the most popular species.

There is an order of 50 species of this flower, many of which can also potentially be grown in middle belt gardens. However, not all of them are quite decorative. Some of them are grown only for the manufacture of medicines or natural cosmetics.

Medicinal kupena - this is the type of plant that combines both decorative and healing properties. It grows in forests, mostly coniferous and mixed, it is easy to get, it is unpretentious.

It is for this reason that we will further discuss the cultivation of this particular subspecies of the flower. Although, if you have a pink or broadleaf - care for them will not be much different. It is only necessary to make an amendment to the flower neighborhood. Broadleaf need more space in the flower garden.

Care of the bath and use in landscape design (with photo)

Landing and subsequent maintenance of the bath is a very easy thing. Flowers belong to plants from the category of "stuck - grow."

Of course, plots with moist and nutritious loams, in partial shade, are ideal for them. But with other conditions it will be almost impossible to ruin the kupen.

Since these flowers are actively growing, they are usually propagated vegetatively by division. The best time for this is early spring or September. But if necessary, you can separate the shovel and carry pieces of curtain at any time during the warm season. Only water after this.

Some plant this plant in greenhouses, but there it is too stuffy. In the forests where it grows, there is no such humidity, so it is better to plant in open areas, especially since the flower needs a lot of space. Planting kupeny in open ground and the subsequent care of it, though not difficult, but requires attention:

  1. In nature, the plant is accustomed to live in the shade, but if you do not forget to water it, then the shady neighborhood is not necessary.
  2. Also it is necessary to fertilize the soil and protect the petals from the caterpillars.

A huge plus of growing this flower in its flower bed is that it is difficult to grow weeds under its wide leaves. Consequently, the plants that you plant next to them will not suffer from weeds. But it is necessary to take into account that the cultivated plant is uncomfortable under the onslaught of powerful leaves.

The photo shows an example of planting and caring for a bath, look at how deep and wide the fossa should be and how much it costs to water such a flower:

Fatal diseases for the kupenami not seen. And among the pests there is hardly one who can eat these aggressors. A curious fact: the white border on the variegated fragrant bathhouse is very popular with some caterpillars, which annually turn it into lace. This is not observed on green specimens.

Kupeny - the undisputed leaders of the shadow garden. These are perfect plants to fill problem areas where there is little light. Planting and caring for any kind of flower in the open sunny place requires additional effort. In the sun they will be nice only in the case of stable watering.

Only plants capable of withstanding their onslaught are suitable as neighbors for the boiling plants — large perennials such as host, rhubarb, powerful ferns. The exception is Hooker kupena: it is better either on the shadow side of the rock garden, or in the foreground of a shadow flower garden. Kupen quickly form large arrays, the adjacent landing should be proportionate to them.

If you plant a flower on an open ground, you can make wide use of a bathing in landscape design, a good example is shown in the photo:

See which of the above plants best combine white and pink species of this flower.

The flower pleases the eye with its white bells almost all summer. Closer to the autumn berries are tied.

Look at the photo - the berries are appetizing, but their description from a medical point of view is unattractive:

Fruits are poisonous. Their venom can cause dizziness, vomiting and indigestion for several days. And some of them have pretty beautiful blue berries. Therefore, if there are small children in the garden, it is better to abandon these plants for a while, or at least plant them away from the paths, somewhere in the depths of the garden.

In the photo below - the varieties of the plant are bathing: if you do not like fragrant, then pay attention to other subspecies - any of them will become a good gardener.
