Keeping of

The most dangerous diseases and pests of plums (Prunus) include cluster sporosis, black and brown spots, churchsporosis, ovularia, black leaves, milky shine, rust and pollinated aphid. In some years, trees suffer from freezing and sunburn.

To preserve the orchard, it is extremely important to treat plums from pests and diseases with effective preparations and to carry out the necessary protective methods.

Diseases of plums: photos and how to handle trees

To get started, read the description of diseases of plums and how to treat trees.

Black knotty or cancer

The causative agent is a mushroom Plowrightia morbosa. Young plum branches affected by this disease thicken, soft greenish swellings appear, which gradually harden and crack. Galls increase, causing deformation of the branches, and the development of the mycelium leads to the death of the wood and the drying of the branches.

Ways of treatment. Cut and burn the branches with black knotty, disinfect 1 slices with copper sulfate and smear them with oil paint. To combat this plum disease, conduct continuous preventive spraying of trees before the leaves of the 1% Bordeaux mixture or its substitutes bloom.

Hole spot, or clusterosporiosis

The causative agent is a mushroom Clasterosporium carpophilum. On the leaves appear numerous, small, reddish spots, eventually lightening in the center, with a vague crimson border. The affected tissue cracks and falls out, the sheet becomes perforated.

With a strong spread of the disease affects the kidneys, young shoots and fruits. On fruits, shallow ulcers with gum form, reddish-brown spots with scaly elevation appear. Fruits are deformed, partially dry. The affected leaves fall prematurely, and the affected shoots dry out.

Control measures. For the treatment of plums from this disease, spray the trees before bud break, and again, immediately after the flowering of the 1% Bordeaux mixture, with HOM or Abiga-Peak preparations. With a strong development of the disease, repeat spraying after harvesting the fruits of the same drugs.

brown spot

The causative agent is a mushroom Phyllosticta prunicola. The spots on the leaves are small, ocher in color with a thin dark rim. In the affected tissue, dotted dark fruit bodies of the hibernating stage are formed, the necrosis tissue cracks and falls out. Affected leaves turn yellow and fall prematurely.

Control measures. Collect and remove crop residues, spraying the trees immediately after the flowering of the 1% Bordeaux mixture or preparations of HOM, Abig-Peak.

Cercosporosis

The causative agent is a mushroom Cercospora cerasella. The spots on the leaves are small, brown in color with a dark border. Dark sporulation pads are formed on the underside, tissue stains crack and fall out, leaves turn yellow and fall off.

Control measures. Collect and remove crop residues, spraying the trees immediately after the flowering of the 1% Bordeaux mixture or preparations of HOM, Abig-Peak.

With a strong spread of spot for treating this disease, spray plum trees also on Abiga-Peak after picking the fruit.

Ovular spotting

The causative agent is a mushroom Ovularia circumscissa. The spots on the leaves are large, concentric, brown in color and without bordering.

As can be seen in the photo, over time, with this disease of the plum, a gray patina develops on the surface of the necrotic tissue, the affected tissues crack and fall out:

Leaves fall prematurely.

Control measures. Collect and remove the affected fallen leaves, spray the trees immediately after the flowering of the 1% Bordeaux mixture or its substitutes. With a strong spread of the disease, repeat spraying after picking the fruit.

Plum rust

Pathogen - fungus Puccinia pruni-spinosae. This plum disease is manifested by stains that look like rust on the surface. Small yellowish circles are formed on the leaves, on the underside of which brown cushions of sporulation are developing. Affected leaves dry prematurely and fall off.

Control measures. Remove weeds, especially buttercup anemone, spray trees immediately after flowering with 1% Bordeaux mixture or its substitutes. Spend 2-3 processing at 7-10 interval days.

Milky luster

There is a milky luster non-parasitic and parasitic. The first is caused by adverse weather conditions.

The leaves become gray with a metallic sheen, become rigid, the wood of the branches does not change. Affected leaves fall prematurely, weakening trees.

The causative agent of parasitic milky luster - mushroom Chondrostereum rigrigittewhich is a secondary infection after freezing of trees. Stem rot develops.

The affected wood in the transverse section has brown spots of various sizes, and the leaves acquire a silvery shade due to the formation of air cavities under the skin.

In mid-June, the affected leaves are deformed, covered with brown spots and, starting from the tip, shrink. Trees gradually dry up.

Control measures. Before treating this plum disease, remove the dried trees, cut off some dry branches, disinfect and coat the saw cuts and freezers. Then spray the 1% Bordeaux mixture or its substitutes.

Mob leaves

The causative agent is a mushroom Fumago vagans. When a large number of aphids leaves are covered with its sweet secretions, which develops a fungal infection. A black soot film forms on the leaves, which is easily erased from the surface of the leaf blade.

Control measures. Spray trees with the appearance of aphids, fufanon kinmiks, spark, Inta-Vir, do not allow the development of large numbers of pests. Spray against the mobile 1% Bordeaux mixture or preparations of HOM or Abig-Peak.

Frosty and sunny frost damage to plums

With sharp fluctuations in daily temperature, the crust heated by the sun during the day thaws and freezes again at night. Light stains of irregular shape appear on the shtambakh and skeletal branches on the southern and southwestern sides of the tree.

The crust dries and cracks, frost cracks are formed, turning into ulcers. When the root system is damaged, the trees dry out already at the beginning of summer; if the boles are damaged, they dry out slowly. Joins a fungal infection.

Ways of treatment. Fissure and crack open wounds with 1% copper sulfate and coat with oil paint. Spend prophylactic spraying before leafing Bordeaux mixture or its substitutes.

These photos show what plum's diseases look like, as described above:

How to process plums from pests of aphids

Aphid plum pollinated (Hyalopterus pruni) - small sucking pale-green insect pest, covered with bluish-white fluff. In the spring, the larvae hatch and feed on the juice of the kidneys, and later on the leaves and shoots.

Several generations of the pest develop, the greatest harm to the plant louse in June and July. The leaves do not curl, but remain small and gradually dry out.

Control measures. To process the plums from these pest spray trees immediately after flowering with one of the preparations: fufanon, karbofos, kinmiks. With a large number of aphids to combat these pests plum spend repeated spraying in compliance with the waiting time of drugs.
